Project Name: Creating a Sustainable and Prosperous Future for Bangladeshi Youth
Duration: 5 years
Funded by: IKEA Foundation and The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
Summary: The program aimed to equip 10,000 youth with the skills they needed to thrive in the current marketplace and build successful enterprises. BYLC believed that for young people to prosper in the 21st century economy they needed a set of skills that positioned them to become leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, effective communicators, and socially-minded citizens. These skills were missing in the current educational system and the slow pace of change in education was an impediment to millions of youth, who could not reach their full potential. Through this program, BYLC planned to strengthen its open online digital training platform with personal in the classroom training and support that allowed youth to acquire these important skills to supplement their current educational qualification. Acquiring these skills set the graduates onto a path of career success and entrepreneurial success. The training coupled with career linkages and job readiness skills and entrepreneurship support enabled 4,000 youth to access direct employment and helped establish 30 thriving enterprises that created 200 new jobs in their first year of operation and thousands of jobs as they grew.
